ALL-NEW MITSUBISHI TRITON LAUNCHED

TOUGHER, SMARTER, MORE PRACTICAL PLUS BETTER VALUE FOR MONEY
Kuala Lumpur, 26 May 2015 – Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM), the official distributor of Mitsubishi vehicles in Malaysia, is proud to announce the official launch of the all-new Mitsubishi Triton today. This is the fifth generation of a successful line of pick-up trucks produced by Mitsubishi Motors for 37 years.

Present at the launch were President and Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Tetsuro Aikawa from Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC), Mr. Kozo Shiraji, Executive Vice President and Group CEO of Machinery Group from Mitsubishi Corporation (MC), Japan, Tan Sri Marzuki bin Mohd Noor, Chairman of MMM and Chief Executive Officer of MMM, Mr. Won-Chul Yang.

The all-new Triton has been developed to be the “Ultimate Sport Utility Truck”, combining the comfortable interior of a passenger car with the functionality and reliability of a pickup. Muscular, sleek and dynamic styling which evokes the form of a well-honed athlete, the all-new Triton also provides generous interior space, ample payload capacity, and class-leading handling.
The front design is characterised by a distinctive grille design which, together with the stylish headlamps, gives a strong 3-dimensional look to the bonnet. Viewed in profile, the all-new Triton has a forward flowing design and a ‘J-line’ between the cabin and rear deck is an innovative solution to maximize interior space while providing plenty of cargo volume.
Just as the previous generation of the Triton set new standards in the pick-up segment, its successor also brings to the segment first-in-class features such as Push Start Button, Keyless Operation, Xenon HID Headlamps with integrated Daytime Running Lights, Tilt and Telescopic Steering and Paddle Shifters for manual control of the automatic transmission when the driver wants it.
Best-in-class features include most powerful in its class engine performance with maximum output of 178 horsepower, maximum torque of 400Nm and a turning radius of 5.9 metres.
Subsequently, new features in the all-new Triton include 4WD selector, Touch Screen Audio System with Reverse Camera, Auto Headlamps and Wipers, and Dual Zone Climate Control.

(Features for each variant may differ.)

The all-new Triton also comes with a low coefficient drag of 0.42.
Offering more comfort and convenience, the 4×4 model now measures 5280mm long (down 15mm), 1815 wide (up 15mm) and 1780mm tall. Ground clearance is rated at 205mm across all 4×4 variants. Interior dimensions have improved boasting an increase of 20mm in legroom and 10mm more shoulder room.
Introducing the all-new Triton, Mr. Won-Chul Yang, Chief Executive Officer of MMM said, “The Triton is the best-selling model for Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia. Since launch in 2006, over 56,000 units have been sold nationwide. Today, we are excited with the official launch of the all-new Triton, the fifth generation of the Mitsubishi Motors pick-up line produced. Since 1978, over 4 million units have been sold worldwide.”
Mr. Yang said that the sales target set by MMM for the all-new Triton is 900 units a month, which will translate into a 20% market share of the pick-up truck segment in Malaysia.
Also speaking at the launch, Mr Tetsuro Aikawa, President and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of MMC said, “The Triton is one of our most important products and contributed the most to our revitalization efforts in 2014. Just as the previous Triton, the all-new Triton will continue to be our core product, contributing to improving our corporate value and sustainable growth in the future.”
The all-new Triton comes with an improved and proven 2.5-litre 4-cylinder engine with an intercooled Variable Geometry Turbo (VGT) which offers High Performance with High Fuel Economy. This technologically-advanced Double Overhead Cam (DOHC) 16-valve turbodiesel engine with a common-rail system now produces 178 PS of power at 4,000 rpm and 400 Nm of torque at 2,000 rpm (50 Nm more torque than before) to give the Triton even stronger performance in any conditions.
For the more business-oriented customers, the all-new Triton Quest 4×2 is now equipped with a 2.5- litre turbodiesel engine with a high pressure commonrail system. This proven engine has an output of 110 PS and 200 Nm.
The all-new Triton, imported as a Completely Built-Up (CBU) vehicle from Mitsubishi Motors’ global production hub in Thailand, is available in five variants for the Malaysian market. The following prices (without insurance, GST inclusive for private registration) are quoted for the all-new Triton in Peninsular Malaysia:

The all-new Triton comes with 2 Years of Free Maintenance and a factory warranty of 3 years or the first 100,000 km. The first 2,000 customers to book and register the all-new Triton will receive a free PETRONAS Gift Card worth RM138 for Dynamic Diesel. Terms and conditions apply.
An efficient 5-speed automatic transmission with Sport mode is available, as well as a 5-speed manual transmission. This is coupled to Mitsubishi’s Easy Select 4WD system which distributes power to the front and rear axles. The Easy Select 4WD system has been continuously improved over two decades and is a robust drivetrain able to handle high torque levels.
Like other Mitsubishi models, High Safety performance is a top priority. The all-new Triton has Mitsubishi’s RISE (Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution) body construction which uses high tensile steel that effectively absorbs and disperses crash energy from all directions while also significantly reducing overall weight. Impact bars has been added within the side doors for additional protection against side collisions.
Other safety features that are standard across the range include dual SRS airbags, a collapsible steering column and anti-intrusion brake pedal, which is made to fold away during an accident. Anti-lock braking (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) is also available. EBD reduces the possibility of skidding when the rear end is light and the wheels may lock up on slippery conditions while braking.
Sales Result and Target

Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM) reported the highest sales figure of 14,184 units of registration for Financial Year 2014 (April 2014 – March 2015). This is MMM’s highest sales achievement since its establishment in January 2005. The record performance capped an all-time record with sales increasing 13% from the previous financial year.

The strong performance was partly due to overall company’s momentum, driven largely by a surge of sales for MMM’s first local assembled in Malaysia, the Mitsubishi ASX. Total sales of the Mitsubishi ASX is 3,299 units contributing to 23% of MMM’s total sales for the financial year. The Mitsubishi Triton which sold 6,016 units contributed to 42% of MMM sales.
For the new FY2015 (April 2014-March 2016), MMM has set its target to achieve 15,500 units, an increase of approximately 10% from last financial year. The all-new Triton is expected to contribute to more than 50% of MMM’s total sales.
